Results of Baby Formula Testing Reveals Shocking Toxic Metal Exposure

Recently, Moms Across America, GMOScience and The New MDS Podcast has conducted the testing of 20 brands of baby formula for toxic and heavy metals (Aluminum, lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium). The results are appalling.

I am going to really push the importance of sharing this article with everybody you know, as its super important to be informed and take action! Babies cannot advocate for themselves.

Infant formula is the only source of food for many babies under 6 months and this level of contamination is not acceptable. Additionally, infants receiving only formula do not get colostrum, (which is shown to improve the permeability of the gut lining) and their blood-brain barrier is also permeable, meaning its easy for these metals to land in the brain and other organs where they will cause problems. The levels at which toxic metals were found in this testing is disconcerting to say the least, and definitely can be a contribution to the autism epidemic along with other increases in diseases and disorders among today's children.

Tested formulas included organic, non-gmo, soy-based, cow-based and goat-based samples in varying price ranges.

A breakdown from the Mom's Across America website...

  • 100% of samples contained lead and aluminum.
  • 80% of samples had more lead than what the EPA allows in drinking water.
  • 6/20 samples had ALL 5 heavy metals.
  • 57% of the samples tested positive for arsenic, 55% for mercury, and 35% for cadmium.
  • At 41,000 ppb, aluminum levels in a goat's milk baby formula were 4000 - 40,000 X higher than other metals in the formulas tested and exceed limits set by the FDA for maximum safety level of aluminum for a preemie.
  • The highest aluminum level detected was 200x higher than EPA allowable levels in drinking water.
  • Levels of mercury in four samples measured above the limit allowed by the FDA in drinking water.
  • Levels of cadmium in both samples of one formula were nearly twice the level allowed in drinking water.

There is mounting evidence about the reality of the food supply regarding toxic and heavy metals like aluminum, lead and cadmium. The known harmful effects of toxic and heavy metals to our bodies from compounded exposure is a serious problem. These metals are regulated in our drinking water...so why are they not regulated in things like baby formula?

Michelle Perro, MD of GMOScience.org states the following in her review of the testing: "Infant formula is a crucial source of nutrition for babies who are not breastfed or is utilized as a supplement to breast-feeding. Ensuring its safety and quality is paramount since infants are particularly vulnerable to contaminants due to their developing biological systems. Toxic metals such as aluminum, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury pose significant health risks. Chronic exposure to these metals, even in small amounts, can lead to developmental issues, cognitive impairments, and other serious health conditions. Hence, studying the presence of these toxic metals in infant formula is vital to safeguard the health and well-being of infants.

Combinations of toxic metals produce negative synergy and have not been assessed in regard to toxicity in terms of childhood development. All organ systems are at risk. There is a cumulative effect and levels increase during periods of high cellular turnover, pregnancy, lactation, during early infant growth, and with various nutrient deficiencies such as iron and vitamin D. Additionally, these metals can cross the sensitive infant’s blood brain barrier which is underdeveloped until approximately 6 months of age."

Top Scoring:1

  1. Kirkland ProCare Non-GMO infant formula
  2. Similac Sensitive infant formula
  3. PurAmino hypoallergenic powder infant formula (For babies with digestive issues requiring predigested formulas)

Lowest Scoring :3

  1. Enfamil Sensitive Infant Formula
  2. Similac Total Comfort Infant Formula
  3. Up & Up Gentle Premium Powder Infant Formula
  4. Up & Up Non-GMO Hypoallergenic Powder Infant Formula
  5. Enfamil Plant-Based Soy Powder Infant Formula (most contaminated)

The good news is that recently Zen Honeycut (Mom's Across America), Kelly Ryerson (Glyphosatefacts.com) and experienced lobbyists took these testing results to the FDA and the Commissioner of Human Foods and there has already been positive results from their efforts. There has been a request to Congress to include infant formula in the Baby Food Safety Act of 2024 which includes the regulation of heavy metals.

I highly recommend watching this informative video from Food Integrity Now for more details about the findings and what they mean. Carol Grievé interviews Zen Honeycut (the powerhouse behind Mom's Across America and author of "Unstoppable"), Stephanie Seneff, PhD (MIT Scientist and author of "Toxic Legacy") and Michelle Perro, MD (Veteran pediatrician and author of "What's Making Our Children Sick?). They really break down the results of their testing, why they matter and how these toxic and heavy metals affect children. They do also talk about solutions.

Also see this article on the Moms Across America website which is an in-depth review of the testing that is easy to understand and includes references to a lot of scientific studies. At the end of this article, they provide a template letter and a link to who your local government officials are, so that you can be a part of this action for change! They make it real easy for you to make a difference!

And last but not least, here is a link to The New MDS (Mothers, Doctors and Scientists) podcast which is very informative. Here is the link to the video on these test results specifically. Once you hear these women speak, you will want to keep track of what they are doing! I will also include Stephanie Seneff's website here, as she is a brilliant mind doing great work to raise awareness about the biochemistry of toxic exposure.

After watching these videos you will be greatly informed about how these toxins operate in the body!
