The Importance of Water...and Why You May Not Be Absorbing It

Every one of the Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique sessions I have conducted over the years is beautiful and special in its own way, bringing unparalleled understanding to the conscious minds of my clients.  As unique as each person's experience is, there are some things that come up in nearly every single session.

There are a few questions that I always ask when I have a client under hypnosis. One of these questions is, "Is there anything (insert name here) needs more of in his/her body to reach optimum health?".

The answer is almost always, "More Water".

Going into Summer (I am actually finishing this up on the Summer Solstice!), I think it's a good time to talk about the need for water and how to meet that need! At the end of this article, I will provide my best hydration tips!

We all know that water is essential, but the frequency at which this comes up from the higher mind space of all of my clients, makes me wonder why we all may need more water, and why we aren't typically getting enough.

You have all heard that our bodies are 50-80% water. Fluid surrounds our joints, our organs and our cells. Fluid fills the spaces in between everything, and all of that is held in by our skin, which has a controlled system of absorbing and excreting fluid.

Physically, it is obvious that water is important. Metaphysically, there are some very interesting things about water that I would like to share as well.

Let's start with some of the physical benefits of water...

  • Helping the movement of toxins out of the body via the kidneys, sweat glands, colon, and lungs.
  • Aiding digestion and transporting of nutrients
  • Lubricating joints, organs and other important parts
  • Temperature regulation
  • Delivery of oxygen in blood
  • Prevention of skin damage and premature aging.
  • Cushioning for brain, spinal cord and other sensitive tissues/ organs
  • Making mucus and saliva
  • Lubricating airways
  • Maintaining blood pressure (a dehydrated or minerally deficient body has problems letting the water into cells where it is needed, causing the water to force itself in- a high pressure situation)
  • Makes minerals and nutrients accessible
  • Prevents kidney damage
  • Boosts overall body "performance"
  • Fights infection
  • Improves brain function
  • Antihistamine
  • Immune system and lymph system function
  • Chemical and hormone balance

How do we know when we may be dehydrated?

  • Fatigue
  • Flushed skin
  • Thirst
  • Depression
  • Muscle Cramps
  • Dark Urine
  • Weakness
  • Headache
  • Bad breath
  • Increased heart rate
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Brain fog, cognitive malfunctioning
  • Dry tongue and lips/ lack of tears, sunken eyes or soft spot (in babies)

Issues that can ultimately be caused by dehydration...

  • Hormone dysfunction
  • Chemical imbalances resulting is cognitive or emotional problems
  • Bacteria overgrowth
  • Digestive issues
  • Joint pain
  • Kidney stones/ failure
  • Heatstroke
  • Coma
  • Death (I feel like this is a little outside of the category of "issues", but here we are.)

The science behind how water works in our systems has a lot to do with electrolytes, minerals that conduct electricity when dissolved in water.
Electrolytes help the body regulate a proper PH, balance fluid amount in the body and carry electrical signals from nerves to muscles. This is a topic I will write a separate article on soon to share why each mineral is important and how to get your daily intake.

Some drinks can actually dehydrate you by diluting electrolytes...

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Alcohol
  • Fruit Juice
  • Soda
  • Sugary drinks

When you are thirsty, it is best to just drink clean purified water with added minerals.

So, this means that mineral uptake becomes pretty important when you want to stay hydrated. When looking at the root cause of dehydration its not quite as simple a fix as drinking a lot of water. Your body needs to have the appropriate minerals that allows your cells to take the water in and use it!

Just think of how many messages need to be sent through your nerves and muscles to get through your day. Something as simple as lifting your finger is actually a complicated interaction of balancing chemicals, minerals, protons, neutrons, electrons and cellular function. Electrolyte balance is important inside and outside of each cell.

The most important electrolytes that are at play here (and roughly how much the body needs in a day) are...

  • Sodium (1500-2300mg)
  • Potassium (4700mg)
  • Magnesium (420mg)
  • Calcium (1000)

Before I get into the best ways to get more water and assimilate it well, I have to talk about the magic of water... which correlates nicely with the actual science and history.

Quantum Hypnosis and many other modalities work particularly well in a hydrated system. This is because the energy flow of our bodies is an electrical system which needs water to function. It makes even more sense for my work, when I look at water from an alchemical standpoint.

In alchemy or esoteric traditions, water is a spiritual element, symbolizing emotions, dreams, the subconscious, purification, cleansing and healing. Water is a completely unique element on this planet. There is nothing else like it. It is known as "Prima Materia" or the prime material. It is sacred. The core and the heart of all life on this planet.

Water changes forms, and those forms symbolize different aspects of our creative experience...

  • Liquid (Subconscious...flowing and moving information)
  • Solid (Manifested solid matter, the result of thought)
  • Gas (Ethers, the essence of life, assimilating into air)

When you look at this as a process of co-creation, it looks like...

It makes so much sense to me that the subconscious is so closely connected to the creative abilities of the fluid state of water, connecting thought to physical manifestations. This is why they want our bodies well hydrated.

Aside from all of the scientific reasons we have seen in the physical body and all the cellular and bodily functions facilitated by the flow of water, we are just beginning to scratch the surface of how water holds information. Alchemists call water the alpha and omega, the harmony and the chaos...because it holds all of the information of the cosmos. People have been fascinated with the fountain of youth and blessing their water for ages. The idea of water holding information and therefore healing properties...is very real. If you would like to dive into the pool of knowledge on water memory, structuring, response to emotions and more...research the following people...

  • Veda Austin
  • Luc Montagnier

Now...how can we get more water and assimilate it well?

There is no hard and fast rule about how much water to drink. From dividing your body weight in half and converting that to ounces...to the rule of 6-8 glasses (what size glasses?!) or 2 quarts for full grown adults. We are all so different, and there are variables that also come into play such as weight, metabolism, level of exercise and exterior temperature.

Here are some tips though...to make sure you are hydrating responsibly...

  • FILTER YOUR WATER. Clean water is very important as our tap water is filled with all sorts of harmful toxins.
  • Adding minerals (those crucial electrolytes we were talking about!). You can find them in dropper form, which is very convenient.
  • Adding a tiny pinch of Celtic sea salt or Himalayan sea salt is a great source of minerals. It is actually recommended to put the salt crystals directly onto the tongue right before you drink your water.
  • Don't drink too much too fast. Half a medium sized glass of water at a time is good, and spread it out, so you are drinking small amounts all throughout your day.
  • Drink half an hour before, and half an hour after food. Drinking during a meal is not recommended.
  • Room temp or warm water is best. Cold water in large amounts can inhibit the vagus nerve, slowing digestion.
  • Get a water reminder app on your phone! These apps will remind you to drink small amounts throughout the day. They calculate how much water you will need based on many variables, and then the spread that out in your waking hours, reminding you every hour or so, and tracking your intake to meet your hydration goal.

Happy hydrating!
